YSSO is the London and Athens based jewellery label from creative mother-and-daughter duo Alexia and Stalo Karides, launched in 2019. YSSO is derived from the word gold in Greek - "chrysso" - as a standalone word which does not have a traditional meaning, and was imagined by Stalo and Alexia to represent a blank canvas to allow the brand and their designs to become a vehicle for everyone to interpret them in different ways.
Stalo, who is an archeologist and art historian, has over 30 years experience in jewellery making and studied at Ecole Des Beaux-Arts in Toulouse in the 80s. Alexia – her daughter – is an ex-corporate lawyer and the Creative Director of the brand. Together they co-design all YSSO jewellery, with every piece hand-carved by themselves personally in their studio.
Individuality and uniqueness come across in all the designs which are often asymmetrical, sculptural and bold in style.
Craftsmanship is at the very heart of YSSO. Working exclusively with one of the oldest family-run workshops in Athens dedicated to preserving Greece’s goldsmithing and traditional jewellery making techniques. Having built collections over the span of 10 years collaborating with the same workshop that we still produce at to this day, our craftsmen are at the core of our brand.
A shared vision of modern jewellery making characterises YSSO's timeless Greek inspired design which seamlessly merge history and creativity. Cultural inspirations deriving from their Greek heritage, as well as their joined lives in France and the UK heavily influence the designs and the outlook of the brand.
