Chyrsanthemum comes from chryssos (gold) and anthemon (flower).
Chrysanthemums flowers were introduced to Europe in the 17th century and their popularity and spread since. They traditionally bloom in October / November, and because they bloom into the “dark days” of early winter, Chrysanthemums are said to represent the light of hope in dark times.
We came across a story which from the island of Cyprus which talks about chrysanthemums as part of a folk tale that goes something like this:
"the month of October was wondering around the earth and was mourning for the loss of the flowers and the leaves of the trees that were falling on the earth, the warm days that were disappearing, and the clouds that were appear in the sky. Chrysanthemums then begged God to be kind to them, and let them bloom in October. God heard them and was kind to them and let them bloom in October".
We thought that was beautiful and wanted to name our flower earrings after these.
